Who doesn’t like ice cream!? Especially during hot, summer days! Let’s face it, we all have those occasional sweet tooth cravings for ice cream. However, we try hard to resist this temptation because ice cream has too much sugar, has lots of fat and is high in calories. …And let’s not mention lactose, which makes it completely off limits for some people with high lactose intolerance! It’s so frustrating!
Well, today I will share with you guys a healthy ice cream recipe – both quick and easy! Say whaaat?! Healthy ice cream!? Is that even a thing!? Well, yes, it totally is!!!
You need only 2 ingredients:
♥ Peeled, ripe banana(s) ….this is the main ingredient!
♥ Cocoa powder
Directions: You can use however many ripened bananas you want. More bananas, mean more ice cream! In a bowl, mash the peeled banana(s) with a masher or fork, until it is really smooth in texture and is well mashed with little to no chunks. Then simply mix cocoa powder into the mashed bananas. The more cocoa powder you add, the chocolatier it gets! Then chill the banana-cocoa powder mixture in the freezer for 1-2 hours (depending on how many bananas you mashed). Afterwards, take it out of your freezer and eat it!
Variations: For all you vanilla or strawberry lovers out there, you can simply mix in vanilla flavoured protein powder or ripe, sweet and mashed strawberries into the banana mixture to create vanilla or strawberry ice cream. You can even add nuts, such as almonds, pistachios or hazelnuts, into the mashed banana for enhanced flavour. As you can see, there are a lot of variation!
Tip: To make things simple, you can also purée the peeled bananas using a food processor, blender or simply putting them into a ziplock bag and smashing them with your hands.
This recipe is perfect for you if…
- You want fat free options with less calories
- You want something healthy and energizing (bananas are known to be energy boosters!)
- You are trying to lose weight, but want to also enjoy a light, sweet desert that your sweet tooth and taste buds yearn for
- You want to eat a desert, guilt free with no added sugars
I hope you beauties try out this quick, simple recipe and bon appétit!!!
